5 P&A Students Elected to Phi Beta Kappa Society

May 17, 2021

phi-beta-kappa.pngFive students from the Department of Physics & Astronomy have been elected to the Phi Beta Kappa Society, the country’s oldest academic honor society.

Four graduating seniors, Daniel Grass, Andrew Kindseth, Maura Lally, and Jason Phelan, and one junior, Ravi Chepuri, were offered membership into the society based on their high academic achievements and recommendations from faculty members.

Only 10% of US colleges and universities have Phi Beta Kappa chapters. At Northwestern, the number of students offered membership this year is 78 out of roughly 1,000 for seniors or 22 out of approximately 1,000 for juniors.

The Phi Beta Kappa society was founded in 1776 and is dedicated to championing education in the arts and sciences, fostering freedom of thought, and recognizing academic excellence.

Congratulations Daniel, Andrew, Maura, Jason, and Ravi on your remarkable achievement!
